When it comes to learning about casino games, one of the first things you want to learn about is the payoff. Pai Gow poker pays when you win both hands. This means your five-card and your two-card hand must both beat the banker's. When this happens, you win and are paid even money. Even money is one to one, minus a commission.

The commission amount charged on winnings is five percent. This amount is deducted from player payouts. To figure out your potential payout, take the amount you plan to bet and double it. Then subtract five percent of that amount. The ending number is your payout. For example, if you bet $10 and you win, the amount you win will be $10. Essentially, you would get back $20, consisting of the $10 you won and the $10 you bet. From your $10 winnings, five percent or $0.50 will be deducted. Your winning $10 bet would return $19.50 total. If you lose or tie, there is no commission charged.

If both the dealer's hands beat that of the players, the house wins. The house also wins if one hand is a winner and the other is a tie. Other hand combinations result in what is called a push.
